She is a well-known and controversial character in Japanese politics, having served as a government minister, a TV host, and a heavy metal drummer. She has a lot of obstacles to overcome, such as a weak economy and households dealing with persistent inflation and stagnating incomes. Along with navigating a tense US-Japan relationship, she will also need to follow through on a tariff agreement reached with the Trump administration by the previous administration.
