I used to lend money to friends easily, but once I didn't get my money from a close friend, I stopped it, and now it's rare that I lend money to people. I feel very upset when I have to ask for my money from the people who borrowed it from me.

I don't know why people borrow money when they can't give it back on time. Money is evil, as it breaks relationships, so it is better not to ask for or give money to your loved ones, I believe.

These days? I don't try it anymore. I’ve lent a friend money before and lost both the cash and the friendship, lol. Some friends will change once you remind them about repayment. I only lend now if I can afford to never collect money again. If you return it, fine. If not, no problem whatsoever.

I used to lend money to my friends until May 20th of this year. A friend of mine whom I was trying to help out scammed me of almost 2 million. I vowed never to help anyone again in my life especially when it comes to lending money.

2 million dollars or naira?

It's huge money. I have made a rule in my life: I have decided on a limit, and above that limit I never lend money to anyone. It's better to break a relationship than to repent afterwards.

Years ago, I would have let my friends borrow money from me in a heartbeat because I knew I would get it back, but nowadays, I think I would be a little more cautious when it comes to lending money to my friends, unless I had given them money in the past and got the money back when they said without issue.

@Spooky Shortie I have left lending money to friends now because I get embarrassed when I have to ask for my money from my friend, but someone who borrowed money never feels shy and reacts differently when you have to ask for your own money.

I can fully understand what you mean. Asking for someone to lend you money is never easy, and you often feel judged when you do. I am the same, hate asking for help with money.

You would think people would be much more understanding, being the way the world is at the moment.

I don’t lend people money just anyhow, I am not a fan of that. What I can do is give you money that I know I will not ask you to pay back. Lending your friends money never ends well, it eventually leads to a strain in the friendship.

@Kennysplash I agree; lending money to a friend is not good for the friendship. It's better not to borrow or lend money to a friend. I have seen friendships break when money is involved in the friendship. I learned it many years ago when I lost a good friend due to it.

There is nothing wrong in lending money to your friends but it's always a very big problem when they can't pay back and now start to make problems with you over your own money. It's why I don't do it easily.

This is what I don't do anymore as I have learnt some lessons the hard way. I lent one friend small cash last year and the guy vanished like smoke. Since then, I’ve learned to say “no” nicely. If I can give you the money, I can. But lend? my heart is not strong for that kind of drama again.

@uptrendfinancialsignal It's always better to say it than to repent afterwards. I understand it's not easy to do that, but we must learn it because there are people who are born to cheat you for money even if they are your friend.
