Demonstrations against a government social media ban in Nepal have resulted in violence between protesters and police forces, leaving at least 13 people killed and several injured.

Protesters identifying as members of Generation Z called for thousands of people to come together in front of the parliament building in Kathmandu in protest of the decision of banning websites like Facebook, X, and YouTube.

Prithvi Subba, Nepal's Minister of Communication, told the BBC that police had to employ force, including rubber bullets, batons, and water cannons. In order to fight hate speech, internet fraud, and fake news, the government has stated that social media sites must be regulated.
