It sounds like this whole situation came down to an “unsafe” or overly risky repair attempt on the Russian side of the station, which definitely lines up with what’s been reported lately. With the current political climate, though, it’s hard to know how much of the story we’re actually getting.
Thankfully, it seems like things have been deemed safe enough for the crew again, but the fact that the air leak still isn’t fully resolved is pretty concerning. The ISS has dealt with leaks before, but this one feels like it’s dragging on longer than it should. I really don’t know what this means for the long‑term future of the station, especially with aging hardware and the international tensions layered on top of it.
Hopefully, they get a permanent fix in place soon, because “safe for now” isn’t exactly reassuring when you’re talking about people living in orbit.
