Are some promotion forums biased?

We see a lot of promotion forums around the internet, some of which tend to stay around for a while and others who tend to start up, stick around for a little and then close up.

Something I have noticed, not on all promotion forums but on some, is that they can be a little biased on what can and can not be advertised on their promotion forum; sometimes this is because they are a site of the same niche.

Are some promotion forums biased?

Oh yeah. I don't know if recently still is the case, but I've seen before promotion communities that forbade advertising any type of promotion community and their members to discuss them. They were really adamant and very strict about it. To be honest, I don't recall any of the ones I saw doing that lasting long. The webmasters were pretty impatient and tried to guilt trip its members when they weren't seeing the results they wanted. I think they thought it was the easiest kind of forum to grow. It is actually exhausting to keep one running smoothly.

Anyway, I don't think it is a good look to be biased against their potential competition. You are playing the long game. You have to have faith in what you are offering and what sets you apart and find ways to adapt. I think shutting the conversation/promotion of potential adversaries is like burying the head on the sand. Someone wants to try running a promotion forum, let them have a go at it and see how hard it really is.

Sure they exist, and they are more common that one could expect.
I had witnessed how many threads about my projects had been ignored completely on many forums.

One of my projects was compared to another, and I was the first one to create a thread about the other "competitor" inviting and welcoming it.
We all compete one way or another, but lets do it with honor and integrity, at least...

In other words... when you value your competitor... you are valuing and lifting up your business too. What about instead competing, collaborating? It actually become even more powerful and beneficial to all.

Definitely yes. Some forums only hype people they know personally or those who donate money. I’ve seen it happen. You’ll post quality stuff and get ignored, but someone else posts rubbish and they pin it. That kind bias frustrates real users. I guess that’s why people now prefer independent platforms or start their own.

Couldn't agree more with this! Unfortunately, I see it all the time where forums are competing instead of working together and collaborating, and that often causes a bad reputation for those who are more in competition than wanting to collaborate with others.

You see companies and businesses collaborating all the time, and you see them all thrive in the same world. The same can happen with forums, but those running forums have to want to collaborate and not want to compete.

Some (including myself) have definitely been biased or restrictive toward others at times. Not always intentionally, but it happens. Ideally, we’d all work together instead of against each other - though that’s not always possible. There are people you click with and people you don’t. I’ve tried to stay as professional as possible, especially in recent months. But sometimes things just happen for a reason, and it’s best to move forward without overthinking it. You can’t always make things click the way you want, and that’s okay - as long as both parties move on respectfully.

I’ve always tried to find ways to support other communities, whether through Administrata or other projects I run. I’ll admit I don’t read every topic or promotion on Administrata.

Some people only post there for promotional purposes and don’t really contribute otherwise. Honestly, that’s fine - but you’ll get much more engagement if you move beyond that mindset. I’ve done the same in the past myself, using forums just to promote something, and there’s really no long-term value in it. It works both ways: you give, you take. If you’re only ever taking, you’ll never truly receive. Just my two cents, based on experience from both sides - as an owner and as a promoter.
