We are celebrating the biggest festival here today in India. You may not know it, but it's one of the greatest festivals we have here.
It is believed that Lord Rama came back to Ayodhya (his city) after 14 years of exile. People of Ayodhya celebrated by lighting candles/diyas to welcome him and his wife and brother. Since then this day has been celebrated by lighting candles and bursting crackers.
