These days OTT platforms have become the preferred ways of entertainment. Theaters have not died but the scenario of movie watching has definitely changed a lot, especially since the pandemic. Still, movies are released in theaters and many are huge success at box office too. Recently, a Bollywood movie "Saiyaara" hit the theater with two debutant in leading roles. The movie sweeped the box office and was trending on all social media platforms and digital platforms with all accolades. Records were broken and new records were made. There was not much buzz around the movie before release, it became a trend after the release. A huge response and appreciation from audiences made it the talk of the town. Youths, especially Gen Z went crazy. I did not watch the movie in theater. I didn't find an appeal for whatever reason. Yesterday, we watched it on Netflix. It was a good watch but nothing extra special to be in such limelight and talks. It was much of hype. I am glad that I did wait for it to come on OTT and saved my time and money visiting theater .
Did you experience something similar? Do social media platforms create an unnecessary hype with viral posts? Share your stories and views.

While movie houses still get people patronizing them, most people often prefer streaming, especially now that we have smart TV where you can easily connect to any streaming service.

@eLdavis . I totally agree there. With OTT platforms and other digital platforms accessible for entertainment, the trend to watch movies from the comfort of your home has increased. And this has picked up more since the pandemic and lock down. Even now, cinema theaters are doing profitable business indicating thar still people go to theaters.

Not to mention the fact that it is even a lot cheaper as well. I can easily make my own popcorn or buy some snacks and watch my movie comfortably.

Without a second thought and even blinking my eyelids, I would agree there. OTT platforms provide us a much much cheaper entertainment at a much affordable rate. Now a days, I don't go to cinema theaters at all, only a couple of movies in a year if it's really worth the visual treat on a big screen. OTT platforms give us more options and we can watch it at our convenience. We can even leave and switch to other movie or show if we don't like something. Moreover, we can skip what we don't want to watch or can watch one thing over and over again...all that in the minimum fees. And it saves a lot on snacks. Snacks in cinema theaters are a bomb on our pockets.
