Well, we keep hearing sayings like " Don't judge a book by its cover". But then we all have been there in life where we were judged for our outer looks and the way we dress up. And we might be on the other side of the fence judging others for the same. I remember attending a bloggers award ceremony a decade back. My blog was amongst the winner( I was very regular to blogging then). And I shared the podium with another winner who was much younger to me. She was dressed in a modern western wear. I was wearing a traditional formal saree. She had read one of my blogs on LGBTQ and their rights. She was well impressed with my progressive thoughts. When we met , she complimented me and added that she would have never imagined such a traditional looking woman like me to be so progressive. Well, my attire might be a reflection of my fashion sense but not my inner thoughts.

The truth of the matter is that it is easier to judge or assume based on how they are dressed, especially in situations where we do not have the opportunity to get to know them better. This is why it is extremely to dress how you want to be addressed.

That's true you cannot judge someone by his/her attire. Our mind has nothing to do with our clothes or physical appearance.

@Sanjeev. That's very true. Your attire might represent your economic starts ( well, some despite all money dress up simply) or your fashion style. But nowhere, it reflects your mindset and attitude. I have seen people with modern dressing having a medieval era mindset. And I have seen the other way round too, where traditional looking people have such progressive and sorted outlooks.
My own dadi ( grandmother) was one such example. She was so ahead of her times with her progressive thoughts but her dressing was very traditional.
@eLdavis . Unfortunately, that's the case. People are quick to judge with outer appearances.

We cannot judge people based on their attire. There are pretenders looking great, but the truth is, they are poor, whereas some people wearing simple clothes, turned out to be millionaires.

But sadly these days people judge others by their clothes and life style. And people even don't have enough money spend more on it. I have seen some people spend more on their appearance than the food. It's sad because that's not going to do anything good for them because people at first look will like you but will reject you afterwards when they know that you are doing a show off.

I was always brought up to never judge people based on their gender, what they like to wear or even their looks, and I have always stuck by that. There are often times when I see someone and you hear people saying something or see people giving them funny looks and I find it wrong.

We do not have the right to judge people according to their appearance. Not all that looks good, fine, or rich. Most wealthy people stay humble; there is nothing to brag about, they are already rich compared to the poor, who pretend to be rich.

There is a saying that how you dress is how you are addressed. People find it hard to respect anyone that is not well dressed, because it screams irresponsibility. Dress well and you will see how people will address you differently.

That's true but in case where people dress indecent, people often judge them based on their indecent dressing.

There are people like that, judgmental without basis or references, only their looks. They forgot that look is not everything.

To be honest, I don't judge people based on what they wear. But it has happened to me unconsciously once and ever since, I try to control it. Clothes can actually give a first impression about a person but you don't define someone's character by the kind of clothes they wear. I have seen people that dress decently but have a very terrible character.

Lol yes, that's also another reason why one has to be careful when it comes to how they dress so they won't be misinterpreted.

I try not to, but I won’t lie, first impressions sneak in sometimes. I’ve been judged by how I dress too by people, but I just have to remind myself that clothes does not show the depth of someone's character.

Everyone has put valid points in the above responses. I agree that consciously or unconsciously we might have done it at least once, knowing fully well that looks and outward appearances can be deceptive and misleading. I agree that it's sad but true that many spend beyond their financial capacity on their looks and attires. This can make many things suffer and even cause financial stress.
